The Siouxland Chamber of Commerce presented the W. Edwards Deming Business Leadership and Entrepreneurial Excellence Award at their Annual Dinner announcing that the 2016 recipient of the community honor is local businessman and long-time community supporter, Richard A. Waller. Mr. Waller spent over 40 years with Security National Bank and retired earlier this year after serving as the Bank’s President, CEO and Chairman of the locally-owned financial institution for over two decades.
Upon receiving the award, Waller stated, “It has meant a great deal to me to lead Security National Bank and I am genuinely grateful to have had the opportunity to make a difference in the community I have and will continue to call home. It is incredibly humbling to be recognized by an organization that has contributed so much to this community for so long.”
The annual award is presented to an outstanding business executive and exceptional community leader in the tri-state region during the Siouxland Chamber’s Annual Dinner meeting hosted at the Sioux City Convention Center.
Waller’s professional career stretches over 44 years with Security National Bank (SNB) and he served approximately half of that time as the organization’s President and CEO. He has been recognized for successfully leading SNB through an era of increasing federal regulations and deftly navigating turbulent changes in the banking / financial services industry. Under his leadership, the bank’s assets grew from $300 million to $1 billion. Over the years, Waller may have become best known for Security National Bank’s unique marketing strategy and his featured role in dozens of light-hearted television commercials promoting the bank’s services and community contributions.
In addition to his professional responsibilities with Security National Bank, Waller has been particularly engaged in leading charitable and not-for-profit organizations throughout Siouxland. Over the course of his professional career, Waller has completed terms on the Board of Directors with numerous civic organizations including the United Way, Morningside College, Goodwill Industries and UnityPoint – St. Luke’s. Waller is also one of a select group of local leaders who have served as Chair of both the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce as well as The Siouxland Initiative.
Chris McGowan, President of the Siouxland Chamber of Commerce, stated, “Rich Waller has consistently led by example and his legacy will include leaving our Siouxland region a significantly better community as a result of his innumerable and noteworthy contributions.”
